Whakatane District Council welcomes a new CEO
With the recent appointment of Steven Perdia as the Chief Executive for Whakatane District Council, the Project is pleased to have a CEO with existing knowledge of the Project which has allowed a seamless transition for the project delivery team. Steven is Council’s observer on the Te Rāhui Herenga Waka board.
In 2018 the Whakatane District Council identified that the marine industry, and specifically the boat building industry, in the region would contribute to the regional economic development and increase local high value employment. The creation of additional vessel berthage, launching and maintenance facilities in a dedicated boat harbour was devised as a way to deliver on such a strategy.
Recent updates have reaffirmed Council’s strategic support for the Boat Harbour project, but with a confirmed need to deliver the project within the project budgets set in 2019 by the funding partners.
Further discussions with Steven and other Project partners confirm a renewed focus on regular information being shared with the community around delivery of the partnership project.
